As a prototyper for Boa Fit System, I built functional prototypes so that brands could see the Boa system on their product. I used a combination of hand operated sewing machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, heat presses, and any other tools that were necessary to get the job done. Below you’ll find a small sample of the types of prototypes I built over my 3 years at Boa.

All of these shoes were delivered to us with standard shoe laces. I deconstructed the uppers, replaced the laces and associated layers with lasercut panels, and installed the Boa lace guides and Dial housings per the manufacturing guidelines. Panel shapes were found using a layup of painter’s tape directly on the shoe upper to trace key features, and then refined in Adobe Illustrator before lasercutting. All stitchwork was done on a hand cranked cobbler’s sewing machine.
